Reference        Description

A        Pitcher and Bowl Table.  Fan used in churches and during funerals, from Cranbury Dance Pavilion.
Dove-tailed dresser made of Birdseye Maple, with original lock and key.  On top: fans, skeleton keys,
beaded purse, compact and mirror, “in between” tobacco tin for short cigars, candle sticks to use to
prepare for bed, quilted dresser scarf.

B        Portrait of Edward Silvers, MD, from Stockton St. (and his siblings).

C        Currier & Ives print, “Four Seasons of Life: Childhood.”  Photo of some of the original members of
the Historical Society.

D        Bureau.  On top: chamber pot, urinal, tintypes, spectacles, small hand bible (dated 1910).

E        Cherry Four-Post Rope Bed, with Trundle.  A key was used to tighten the ropes for stability (hence
the phrase “Good night, sleep tight!”); because mattress ticking often contained bed bugs, the phrase
continues “…and don’t let the bed bugs bite!”  Quilt originally owned by the Cook family.

F        Coat rack with assorted hats, circa WW2.  Sewing machine, probably Singer, with drawers and
attachments.

G        Dome trunk, papered on the inside, with lift-out tray.  Contains fans, shoes, and baby’s fur hat.

H        High chair from the Applegate home. (Turn it around and it becomes a walker and a potty.)
Wooden sled.

I        Period clothing.  Wedding gown.  Black cape and hat – probably mourning clothing.  Athletic uniforms
from local players.

J        Trunk from Edward Taylor Riggs Applegate (E.T.R.A), who lived on South Main St. at one time.  His
initials were immortalized in the naming of Etra Park and Etra Road.

Not Pictured:

  2. Bamboo Windsor Arm chair, 1820.
