Please join the Hightstown-East Windsor Historical Society as a
volunteer. The Society is in the process of displaying its many
historical treasures throughout the museum and needs help from
the community for this enormous task.

Writers are needed for the quarterly newsletter that keeps our
neighbors, schools and members informed about local events and
history. Accomplished as well as in-training writers are sought to
choose a topic of local history in which they are interested.
Following research into local newspaper stories beginning in
1849 and books and other materials, the writer will create a story
for the newsletter. What better way to pursue an interest in
writing, history or both?

Special
displays featuring different types of objects are
developed several times each year, requiring the help of
volunteers. A critical need that
you could fulfill is to help tell the
story of groups of artifacts. This would be accomplished by
researching and writing museum-like signs for different object
groupings.

Volunteers are needed to attend
monthly meetings and help make
important decisions. Meetings are usually held the first Monday
of the month at the Sara Hutchinson Educational Center freight
station at 7:30 p.m. The Center is behind the Ely house at 164 N.
Main Street. Please call Nancy Walker Laudenberger for the next
meeting date and directions at (609) 443-6536.

Docents are another type of volunteer. Our docents are friendly
people who like to share what they know about the history of our
area with others.  Training and a book compiled by the
Hightstown Women's Club make sure you are able to assist the
visitors to the Ely House.

If you'd like to help in the Society's library on Tuesday evenings,
please contact Librarian Fran Cook at fcook1350@verizon.net.
